Day Out With Thomas

A few weekends ago, we had the chance to go see Thomas the Tank Engine at Greenfield Village (part of The Henry Ford Museum), as a treat from Jacob's Mom and Dad. Aiden LOVES Thomas and consequently, Ava does too... We didn't tell either of the kids where we were going, just that we had a surprise for them. Once we pulled into the Village, Ava freaked out, "THOMAS!!". I'm not sure what Aiden thought was going on, but I think he was a little skeptical.

They offer this every year (I believe) and we've always thought he was too young to really know what was going on. Considering his love for Thomas has grown so much over the past year, now was the perfect time! Our 20 minute train ride on Thomas, which goes around the perimeter of Greenfield Village, was set to leave at 10 am. As we were waiting in line to be let in, Thomas came by on the track in front of us. You'd have thought Aiden was going to pass out. I think it finally hit him what we were there for.

Along with the train ride, you had access to the whole Village; which included a carousel, a farm, pedal cars for the kids to ride on, and a Thomas-themed play tent including duplos, tattoos, coloring, train tables, etc. We had a few meltdowns, but once they were pumped with food, they were much better. They loved every minute of it!

Last week, while I was getting Ava ready for the day, she was upset about one thing or another and was crying inconsolably. Aiden, who was on his way downstairs to start breakfast, heard her and wanted to see what was wrong. I told him there was nothing he could do because she was just too upset, but he wanted to help. So the sweet big brother that he is, asked her, "Ava, what was your favorite part of going to see Thomas on Sunday?". And wouldn't you know it, she immediately stopped crying and started talking about how much fun she had with Daddy and Momma, Nana and Papa and Aien (her way of saying Aiden). Whatever she was upset about was long forgotten. Even almost two weeks later, they're still talking about it. As Ava tells me daily, "I (and Aiden, Nana, Papa, etc etc.) ride on Thomas!"
